Boxing clever with digital emissions tracking

PortXchange Products, the Netherlands-based digital shipping solutions provider, has launched a new product called PortXchange EmissionInsider, with the Port of Rotterdam as its first customer.

“The PortXchange EmissionInsider helps us to visualise emissions from all transport modalities – sea-going vessels, barges, trucks and rail. Equipped with this data, we can pinpoint the emission sources and develop a targeted approach to lower them,” said Douwe van der Stroom, business manager, energy transition & digitalisation at Port of Rotterdam.

Digital solution

PortXchange EmissionInsider is a digital solution to support ports in achieving their decarbonisation targets from all transport-related emissions and was created in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam and BigMile, a Netherlands-based calculation and analysis company.

Thanks to this collaboration, the port has been able to identify all transport-related (sea-going vessels, barges, trucks, and rail) emissions in the port, as well as emissions from the sea passage towards Rotterdam and the emissions from transportation to the hinterland, by rail, barge or truck.

With the launch of PortXchange EmissionInsider, the aim is to provide a digital platform that supports the Port of Rotterdam in its ambition to improve its emissions-tracking practices and use reliable real-time data to analyse its carbon footprint.

Consequently, the port can make better decisions on emissions reduction strategies, standardise reporting and support the port community and its customers to achieve their decarbonisation goals. 

PortXchange and BigMile are working together to expand PortXchange EmissionInsider to other ports worldwide to create similar benefits and support them in driving their decarbonisation goals.
