CTG launches new effluent indicator

The Uks Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG) will be presenting its new UviLux BOD Indicator at this year’s Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) Conference in Telford.

The company’s product provides effective monitoring of effluents within natural water systems and water processing plants. The indicator reports biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) units through detection of fluorescent proteins inherent within sewage and slurry.

The use of fluorescence provides sensitive signal detection which is more effective than optical absorption methods currently in use. The real-time reporting of BOD enables the measurement to be used for process control which is not achievable with conventional BOD laboratory techniques.

Justin Dunning, sales manager, CTG, told GreenPort: “So far, our marketing has been focused on the environmental agencies and companies but there may well be some interest from ports, harbours and inland waterways which are looking to monitor pollution.”

He added: “If waterways and port authorities are concerned over increased effluent which may be coming from a nearby river or another source, the UviLux BOD indicator will be useful to improve water quality.”

CTG will be holding a free workshop at WWEM on 7 November 2012 for delegates looking to learn more about the company’s new UviLux BOD Indicator and will also be showcasing its new FastGuard technology – a system for water intake protection and monitoring of phytoplankton photosynthesis.
