ECT powers ahead with electrification aim

The order supports the transition of ECT’s Euromax terminal to fully electric operations and includes 42 lithium-ion Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and advanced charging infrastructure.

“This deal underlines two decades of operational success for Konecranes Gottwald AGVs at the ECT Euromax terminal,” said Ralf Konnerth, director automated horizontal transport, Konecranes.

”Konecranes is ready to further support the terminal’s modernisation journey for the next 20 years, with electrification in full focus.”

Smooth integration

The new AGVs will operate alongside existing diesel-powered units, seamlessly integrating via Konecranes’ TEAMS Equipment Control System.

This smart software coordinates movements between port equipment including AGVs, Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC), optimising container handling operations.

The electric crane and AGV fleet is equipped with a battery management system that monitors charging and operational data to ensure battery efficiency and reliability.

Fast-charging stations will further reduce downtime and improve throughput.

Part of Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, the project marks a significant step in port emissions reduction, combining automation and sustainability to meet ports’ evolving environmental targets.
