Environmental data shapes port strategy

More than 30 ports are now using the emissions intelligence platform to monitor port emissions, evaluate environmental measures and support evidence-based port policy decisions, as the European Commission’s EU Ports Strategy places greater emphasis on measurable sustainability outcomes.

“PortView gives port teams the continuous intelligence they need to make better decisions faster, reducing uncertainty around environmental performance, vessel trends and long-term planning.”

OceanScore said PortView provides continuous vessel-level environmental data, enabling ports to track emissions trends, identify pollution hotspots and assess the effectiveness of initiatives such as cleaner vessel incentive schemes, shore power and alternative fuel infrastructure.

The company said the platform replaces fragmented reporting and periodic consultancy studies with ongoing analysis to support investment planning and regulatory reporting.

OceanScore also manages the Environmental Shipping Index (ESI) on behalf of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), with the recently launched ESI Core introducing an updated methodology to improve emissions transparency and strengthen incentives for cleaner shipping operations.

The platform is also being used by port authorities including APRAM and APDL to support environmental reporting and infrastructure planning.

João Neves, chairman of APDL, said PortView plays an important role in monitoring progress towards the authority’s carbon neutrality target by 2035 and enables more informed operational decision-making.

OceanScore said increasing adoption of PortView reflects a wider shift across the ports sector towards data-driven environmental management, helping ports demonstrate measurable progress as regulatory scrutiny and stakeholder expectations continue to grow.
