Heat-resistant batteries aid e-tractors

Zero-emission electric tractors with battery technology designed for hot climates are bound for a terminal in Côte dIvoire, West Africa.

The Gaussin fully electric APM 75T HE tractors will be used by the port terminal of Abidjan, operated by Bolloré Ports. This is the first terminal in Africa to receive and use the new technology dedicated to container transport.

The silent APM HE is the first container transport solution that has been designed specifically for hot climates. It uses solid-state battery technology which is insensitive to variations in outdoor temperatures from -20°C to +60°C.

The high power density LMP battery is designed and produced by Blue Solutions, a subsidiary of the Bolloré Group.

The solid electrolyte makes it extremely safe, with no risk of runaway heating. LMP batteries do not contain any cobalt, nickel, solvent or “rare earth” elements, further reducing the environmental impact of the tractors

The tractors have been designed to maximise productivity and incorporate the technical specifications used by Bolloré Ports in the terminals it operates.

The APM 75T HE tractors allows significant savings in operating costs, in terms of both maintenance and energy. In addition to their ability to operate in extreme climate conditions, they can cope with the high productivity demands that are put on heavy handling vehicles.
