Hybrid RTGs power Canary Islands growth

The investment follows OPCSA’s 2022 purchase of six hybrid RTGs, further advancing the company’s drive toward port electrification and drive towards eco-efficient operations.

Smart features

The hybrid RTG cranes will feature advanced port equipment technology, including battery packs, hybrid gensets and integrated fire suppression systems.

Equipped with Konecranes Smart Features such as Auto-Steering and Truck Lift Prevention, they will enhance operational safety while cutting emissions and fuel use compared to conventional diesel models.

According to Konecranes, the order is part of its broader Ecolifting program, which supports port electrification and port sustainability by reducing carbon footprints while increasing operational efficiency.

“When a customer makes a new order, it means our equipment is doing its job and the partnership is strong,” said Darryn Scheepers, EMEA sales director, port solutions at Konecranes.

This latest investment underscores OPCSA’s central role in regional trade growth while highlighting how hybrid RTG technology is helping reshape port equipment strategies worldwide to align with long-term sustainability goals.

Delivery is expected in the second quarter of 2026.
