Strategic partnerships in port electrification

The agreements will focus on deploying battery-electric container handling equipment, including electric terminal tractors, across APM Terminals’ global network.

Emissions reduction

The collaboration with CATL will combine the company’s cutting-edge battery technologies with APM Terminals’ operational scale and logistics expertise.

CATL will supply high-performance batteries and system-level solutions to power electric port equipment, enabling significant emissions reductions.

In an additional agreement, APM Terminals and SANY Marine have signed a Master Framework Agreement for the future supply of battery-electric terminal tractors.

Under the agreement, about 500 diesel-powered terminal tractors across APM Terminals’ global network will be replaced with battery-electric models by 2030. 

CATL has previously partnered up with Sany on previous electrification projects including a battery swapping project for heavy-duty trucks in Fujian.

All parties are members of the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA), which seeks to accelerate clean energy transitions across the shipping industry.

The partnerships extend across the full battery lifecycle, from product development to recycling, ensuring sustainable operations.

These new agreements align with APM Terminals’ goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2040 by using electric terminal tractors and other electric port equipment powered by renewable energy.
