Svitzer expands its fleet with new electric tug

The tug, set for delivery from Sanmar Shipyard in the second half of 2025, will add to the fleet in the Øresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden, delivering near-zero emissions during operations.

“In recent years, we have experienced an increasing demand for green towage services in Scandinavia, including the Øresund Strait,” said Mathias Jonasson, managing director, Scandinavia, Svitzer.

“This new battery-powered tug allows us to continue providing reliable and safe services to our customers while significantly reducing port emissions and contributing to our 2030 decarbonisation targets.”

Fully-electric

The 25-metre long electric tug, designed by naval architect Robert Allan Ltd, features a 70-tonne bollard pull and a high-capacity 1,818 kWh battery. This enables fully electric operation, backed by two generators for extended endurance and firefighting capabilities.
