Automated trucks in landmark port electrification project

The state-of-the-art ATTs, equipped with Embotech’s Level 4 AV Kit, will enable safe and precise autonomous operation in complex, mixed-traffic environments.

Smart port operations

The technology behind the ATTs delivers groundbreaking capabilities, including sub-5cm localisation accuracy and seamless container chassis positioning under cranes, even in adverse weather.

Terberg will supply its Drive by Wire electric terminal tractors and oversee safety certifications and integration. 

“We are delighted about this collaboration between APM Terminals, Embotech, and Terberg in this truly innovative MVII expansion automation project in the Port of Rotterdam,” said Rob van Hove, CEO of Terberg Special Vehicles division.

“Together, we are introducing the first automated fleet in a port terminal operation with mixed traffic. The result is an automated solution to provide future proof horizontal transport of containers.”

Following a successful pilot and rigorous testing, the fleet is slated for deployment in early 2027.
