DP World offers port carbon insetting incentive

Starting 1 January 2025, the six-month trial will reward importers with 50kg of certified carbon credits for every loaded container moved through DP World’s UK ports.

Tailor-made insetting

These port carbon insetting credits differ from traditional offsets by targeting measurable emissions reductions within a company’s own supply chain. The programme underscores DP World’s commitment to greener logistics, aligning with the global push for sustainable supply chains.

The credits, generated by Unifeeder, a DP World subsidiary, come from verified GHG reductions achieved through the use of lower-carbon fuels in Northern European shipping operations.

DP World said that if just 50% of import volume joins the trial, the programme could displace over 11,000 tonnes of fossil fuels, cutting 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The trial programe builds on DP World’s successful Modal Shift Programme, which reduced over 17,000 tonnes of emissions.
