Energy solutions workshop draws closer

Southampton will play host to a unique event bringing together international experts to highlight the potential use of high performance marine battery systems and stored energy.

A workshop focussing on green energy will be part of the Next Generation Marine Power & Propulsion Conference in Southampton

The one-day ‘High Performance Marine Batteries & Stored Energy’ workshop – part of the Next Generation Marine Power & Propulsion conference – aims to identify a range of genuine solutions for workboats, pilot boats, wind farm support vessels, survey vessels, scientific research craft, fishing vessels, superyachts, military craft and unmanned vessels.

Attendees include commercial and military end-user organisations, boat builders, engine manufacturers, mechanical and electrical engineers, naval architects and legislators.

The fast moving sessions will focus on informal discussion and industry experience from subject matter experts including Lloyds Register and DNV-GL. Hybrid sessions focus on simple and viable business cases for next generation vessels of all sizes including The Hour of Power concept. Presenters will highlight how fuel can be saved, maintenance costs reduced and engine life extended.

Supporters of the event include Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute, British Marine and BAE Systems HybriDrive. Robert Young of US based XALT Energy will use his session to quantify the footprint, weight and cost benefits of marine Lithium-ion battery systems.

The one day workshop is being held at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton on 28 April. The Next Generation Marine Power & Propulsion conference begins on 26 April.
