Green barge service

With the new service, DP World is creating a new greener corridor between the Upper Rhine region and Rotterdam World Gateway.

”This new service will give our customers even greater flexibility to transport goods in a sustainable, efficient, and reliable way.”

Greater efficiency

Mr Harrison said that the strength of this new service is that by bundling containers in the hinterland, it becomes possible to call at only one terminal in Rotterdam in a fixed schedule to and from Rotterdam World Gateway.

This will improve service reliability as well reduce emissions per teu due to the higher load factor of the barges, and the reduced port stay.

Since first entering the market in 2007 with the acquisition of several P&O terminals, DP World has been developing its inland network across Europe.

Its inland portfolio now consists of 12 inland terminals; three in Germany, four in Switzerland, two in Belgium and three in the Alsace region of France.

The aim, it says is to provide customers resilient trimodal transport, using  road, rail, and waterway, between European deep-sea ports and its network of inland terminals.

The new barge service will begin on 1 February 2022.
