Harwich Haven awarded funding for its efficiency efforts

The funding will support SEAS (Smart Efficient Automated Scheduling), a project designed to revolutionise port scheduling, enhance efficiency and advance decarbonisation efforts at HHA’s facilities.

Motorsport derived

The SEAS initiative leverages motorsport-derived technologies to improve port scheduling systems, reducing carbon emissions and cutting operational costs.

HHA and PurpleSector aim to use this innovative scheduling technology to streamline HHA’s port activities, ensuring faster, more efficient handling and movement of vessels, ultimately boosting overall port efficiency.

PurpleSector’s CEO, Mark Mathieson MBE, shared similar enthusiasm for the project, emphasising the potential impact of their technology on reducing carbon emissions in port operations.

“Our innovative techniques have the potential to revolutionize carbon reduction in port operations and we are thrilled to work with such a forward-thinking partner as Harwich Haven Authority,” he said.

The SEAS feasibility study is set to run from November 2024 to March 2025 and will focus initially on optimizing HHA’s Pilot Launch vessel operations.

Should the trial prove successful, the project may advance to a full proof of concept, supporting the broader adoption of smart, efficient scheduling across port operations in the UK.
