Itapoá accelerates its net zero ambition

The terminal said its substantial investments in technology and infrastructure are crucial to its growth while aligning with its commitment to a greener future.

“Our operations are committed to reducing emissions, and to this end, we have made substantial investments in both technology and process improvements,” said Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr, director of operations, technology and environment at Porto Itapoá.

“By joining the Global Compact’s Net Zero Ambition Movement, Porto Itapoá reaffirms its commitment to ambitious, science-based climate goals, emphasising the importance of achieving net-zero emissions.”

Green commitment

Porto Itapoá’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated by its acquisition of the largest fleet of electric Terminal Tractors (TTs) in Brazil.

The 20 electric TTs, valued at R$20 million, are expected to save 858,000 litres of fuel annually and prevent the emission of 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

These TTs, capable of carrying up to 65 tonnes each and operating for about ten hours on a full charge, will be charged using renewable energy sourced entirely from sustainable sources.

Earlier this year, Porto Itapoá received the international Renewable Energy Certificate (I-Rec) certification, confirming that 100% of the electricity used at the terminal in 2023 came from renewable sources.

The terminal’s efforts in decarbonisation and net-zero ambitions continue to position it as a leader in environmental responsibility and sustainable growth.
