Eco Wave Power and its partner I-KE International Ocean Energy, a subsidiary of Lian Tat Company, have been awarded exclusive rights to deploy Taiwan’s first 100 kW onshore wave energy unit at Suao Port.

“This tender award represents a groundbreaking moment for Eco Wave Power and for Taiwan,” said Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power.

“It is not only our entry point into the Asian market but also the first time that a Taiwanese port has been allocated for wave energy testing.”

Landmark moment

The project represents a landmark moment in the integration of tidal power and wave technology into Taiwan’s clean energy transition, with potential expansion up to 400 MW nationwide.

The Keelung Branch of Taiwan Port Corporation designated 6.75 hectares of Suao Port’s southern outer breakwater for testing.

I-KE secured Zone C, where the wave energy unit will be installed under a turnkey agreement signed in late 2024. The site’s location, facing the Pacific Ocean, provides stable conditions ideal for commercial-scale development.

The project is expected to showcase how marine civils expertise, combined with advanced port infrastructure, can accelerate renewable energy deployment.

With phased plans to scale from 20 MW to 400 MW, it’s hoped that Suao Port could become a flagship hub for marine renewables, enhancing Taiwan’s leadership in innovative clean energy solutions.
