UK’s largest fleet charging hub

The project is funded through the UK Government’s Thames Freeport seed capital programme, which aims to enhance vehicle charging infrastructure, improve air quality and drive economic growth in the region.

“The Port of Tilbury EV Charging Hub will be a welcome addition to support the 6,000 HGVs that pass through the port every day, as we work to reduce the emissions impact of our customers’ operations,” said Peter Ward, commercial director at the Port of Tilbury.

Greener trucks

With a GB£1 million investment, Fleete will build a 5MW charging station featuring 16 rapid chargers capable of simultaneously servicing 16 electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). 

Strategically located along the A13 corridor into London, the hub will support the decarbonisation of heavy transport by addressing infrastructure challenges like grid capacity and land availability.

The facility will include 12 ultra-fast 360 kW chargers from Heliox and four Voltempo HyperCharging units, ensuring reliable access to fleet charging solutions for the port’s 60+ commercial vehicle operators.

As the Thames Freeport progresses toward its net-zero emissions goal, the hub represents a crucial step forward in sustainable transport reinforcing the Port of Tilbury’s crucial role in sustainability, both individually and as a member of the Thames Freeport board.
