The deal brings together Portwise’s simulation expertise with Haskoning’s engineering prowess to deliver integrated and sustainable lifecycle solutions for ports and terminals going forward.

“Becoming part of Haskoning enables us to scale our impact and broaden the value we deliver to clients,” said Yvo Saanen, managing director, Portwise.

“By combining our deep technical expertise with operational and financial insights, we are strongly positioned to lead this transformation and support sustainable growth across the sector.”

Sustainable development

The combined offering is designed to address rising demand for data-driven port planning as operators pursue green ports and sustainable port development in response to digitalisation, shifting trade patterns and stricter environmental requirements.

Portwise’s track record includes major port planning and optimisation projects such as its work at the Port of Virginia in the United States.

There, the consultancy supported the transition from traditional terminal operations to semi-automated facilities, enabling significant volume growth while reducing emissions compared with conventional RTG-based operations.

The project highlights how advanced simulation and data-led port planning can underpin sustainable port development, balancing efficiency gains with environmental performance.

Haskoning CEO Marije Hulshof said the acquisition strengthens the company’s capabilities to support ports globally in becoming smarter, more efficient and more sustainable, particularly as demand grows for integrated, future-proof solutions aligned with green ports strategies.
