GNL Quintero, the first of three LNG terminals built in Chile, will soon welcome the services of two new RAstar 3200-class tugs.
The terminal currently imports up to 2.5m tonnes of LNG a year which is used in central Chile.
SAAM held a naming ceremony for the two tugs, Yunco and Huaraivo, at the Port of Valparaiso in front of local authorities, the navy, customers, suppliers and team members.
The two tugs are equipped with winches to escore larger ships and will provide a full range of ship-handling services at GNL Quintero.
They will be deployed anywhere along South America’s west coast and delivery of the tugs included a 60-day trip across the Pacific Ocean from China are Yunco and Huaraivo were built at Bonny Fair Development shipyard.
Operator SAAM hopes that the vessels will boost safety at the LNG terminal.
