The Spanish port of Huelva is teaming up with Enagás and other ports in the region to offer LNG bunkering and gas exports.

The project is part of a bigger plan for the construction of an intermodal platform and has been submitted to the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which is dedicated to the financing of transport infrastructure between 2014 and 2020.
Port Authority of Huelva says the project will make the port more attractive in South Atlantic Europe and promote the use of rail connections between the southern regions of Spain and Portugal.
This intermodal platform will see €22m invested in a rail terminal in the south pier, a new container terminal and a new marine passenger terminal.
The project also aims to build missing links and remove bottlenecks, providing rail interoperability and especially improve border sections. It will also contribute to the connection with the trans-European transport network (TEN -T) and attracting new business.
Huelva already has one of Spain’s largest LNG regasification plants, owned by Enagás. The LNG plant has five LNG tanks with a capacity of 619,500m³. Located at the mouth of the Tinto and Odiel rivers on the Atlantic coast, Enagás says it’s well positioned to serve ships from Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Peru and Guinea, among others.
