Iris scanner for Philadelphia terminal
The Port of Philadelphia has started to enrol warehouse workers at its Greenwich Terminal into a new – and fast – biometric security system.
The new system, put in place by ePortation, starts with the presentation of an ID card. Rules and validations are then run and if criteria are met, the iris scanner is triggered to scan the person’s eyes. Importantly the iris scanner does not require a controlled pose.
If the match is good then the system unlocks the gate – all in two seconds. As an added security, the entire system is encrypted from transport to rest. Further, the ePortation systems are both real time and mobile, giving extra flexibility to the terminal operators.
