Both Cruise and Port stakeholders attend GreenPort Cruise & Congress to show the key role they play in sustainable shipping and debate the use of alternatives such as battery, LNG and shore power.
Last year’s keynote session at GreenPort, held in Oslo, featured a presentation from Torstein Hagen, the Founder and Chairman of Viking Ocean Cruises who spoke about the time and effort that Viking have spent on analysing the various future fuel solutions available.
Hagen spoke about the fortunate position Viking find themselves in as a relatively young company ho have been able to invest in hybridisation, shorepower, solar panels, SCR and many other technologies designed to reduce emissions on their river and ocean-going vessels.
Speaking at Mercator Media’s annual environmental conference last year, Torstein Hagen said during his keynote address, “We do not believe LNG is a solution for the future, not even a temporary one.”
In Viking’s view the real future looks like hydrogen which Torstein described as “the only solution for the future”.
