Konecranes’ new hybrid reach stacker is in the running for two prestigious industry awards at the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) Awards for Excellence 2014.
The reach stacker has been shortlisted in both the Environment and Innovation categories.

Konecranes unveiled its hybrid reach stacker earlier this year.The SMV 4531 TB5 is an electrified container handling machine using a counter-balanced principle. With a lift capacity of 45 tonnes the machine weighs-in fully laden at over 120 tonnes.
It incorporates a diesel-electric driveline, an electrified hydraulic lifting system and a super capacitor based regenerative system that stores energy for ensuing traction and lifting needs.
Offering customers substantial cost and environmental benefits, Konecranes says that estimated fuel consumption at normal handling of fully loaded containers will be at least 30% lower than for equivalent diesel powered reach stackers with reduced noise and exhaust emissions.
These benefits are achieved by electrifying all flows of energy - across the driveline, the closed loop hydraulic lifting system, and the energy storage system.
The new hybrid reach stacker has been on field testing in Port of Helsingborg since the beginning of the year and it should be on the commercial market sometime in 2014.
The FLTA 2014 Awards will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in the UK on 1 February 2014.
