DP World manager shot dead

Islamist militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack on Paul Anthony Formosa, manager for P&O Ports, a subsidiary of DP World, which operates the port.

Mr Formosa’s killer was shot dead on the spot, Mohamed Dahir, a local security official, told AFP news agency.

The attack inside the port was carried out by a man who resembled a fisherman, said press activist Mohamed Moalimuu on Twitter. He stated that Mr Formosa was initially seriously injured but later died in hospital.

DP World won a 30-year concession in 2017 worth $336m (£260m) to develop and manage Bossasso Port.
