Durban upgrade completed

A major port upgrade programme has been completed in Durban, South Africa, the biggest of its kind on the African continent.

The works allowed for the port entrance channel to be widened from 120 metres to 220 metres, and to be deepened from the previous 12.8 metres to 19 metres in the outer channel and 17 m in the inner port. As a consequence, it will be possible for container vessels up to 9,400 to be serviced in the port.
