Madagascar mining
Asmall port being built in the south of Madagascar by a subsidiary ofmining group Rio Tinto will be operated by UK port consultancy Portiaand Australias Strang Logistics, which joined forces to bid for theconcession. The two partners are in detailed negotiations, having been awarded the contract.
The port will serve a new mine being developed by Rio Tinto but will also handle other cargoes; the Madagascar government wants the port to generate employment and help the economy in that part of the country.
