Mombasa cancels tender for second grain handler
Kenya Port Authority unexpectedly cancelled a tender for a second grain handler at the port of Mombasa just three days before the bidding deadline.
The withdrawal was ordered by the country’s Transport Ministry, after the Prime Minister claimed that a second grain handling facility might undermine investor confidence.
Grain Bulk Handlers Limited has exercised a monopoly in this sector for the last eight years.
