Mombasa tackles congestion head on

At the peak of its congestion crisis in July, more than 17,000 teu were being handled, well over the port’s 14,300 teu capacity. KPA chief operations manager Joseph Atonga has confimed that that figure has been reduced to 13,000 teu.

Cargo clearance has improved with manifests arriving 24 hours before the ship’s arrival and the number of trucks collecting cargo in a day has risen from 400 to 700 since the 24 hour working rule has been in force.
