Ngqura development drastically delayed
The second phase development of Ngqura Port in South Africa will not now be completed for at least five years, despite Transnet Port Terminals having earlier suggested work could be finished within the next financial year.
Work will increase capacity from 800,000 teu to 2m teu, making it South Africa’s largest container port.
The delay has been blamed on the recession, which has hit volumes. Prior to the recession, these had been growing at an average of 11% a year.
