Ngqura development ploughs ahead

South Africa’ s National Port Authority has decided to implement the € 363m ($489.7m) first phase development of Ngqura without private sector partners. However, it is still interested in collaborating with external companies to take forward the container terminal project.

Earlier conversations with a potential partner ended in 2004, when that party asked for existing boxed traffic at Durban and Port Elizabeth to be shifted to the new facility.Delays in construction mean that the new harbour will only become operational by the end of next year, two years later than planned.
