Ngqura terminal development put on hold

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has suspended the Request for Qualification (RFQ) process for the financing, operation and maintenance of the Ngqura Container Terminal.

The process has been suspended in terms of clause 10 of the RFQ as is “necessary”.

As a result, the authority has told bidders that it will be not be accepting any bids and is advising prospective bidders not to submit their bids on the closing date of the RFW, which is 3 December 2013.

TPNA says it will provide prospective bidders with an update in due course.

This isn’t the first time there have been delays with Ngqura development. Back in 2010, the second phase of development of Ngqura Port was delayed due to the recession, which hit volumes.

TPNA also recently made an order for 26 of Cavotec’s MoorMaster 200C units to be installed at four container berths at the Port of Ngqura in two phases.
