NIGERIA TO BUILD THREE PORTS

Nigeria’ s Federal government has given permission for the construction of two seaports and one river port costing a combined $1.1bn.

Significantly, $25.09m has been spent on upgrading IT provision, with 6,000 new computers acquired and nearly 80% of KPA’s 6,900 employees put through training courses.

Grimaldi and RoRo Oceanic Nigeria Ltd are to build a ro-ro port at Tin Can Island at a cost of $400m, whilst Maersk is to build a second seaport at Lekki for a similar amount. Finally, the state governments of Ogun and Ondo have agreed to fund construction of a $300m river port in Olokoland. The three new facilities are needed to relieve pressure on Nigeria’s existing eight ports, especially that at Lagos.
