SOUTH AFRICA TO BOOST SPENDING ON PORTS
South Africas transport authority, Transnet, is to implement a US$6.3 billion investment programme over the next five years to expand existing port and rail infrastructure.
In comparison, vessel loading and unloading added just US$6.8m to the overall cost of moving goods through the port. The report also emphasises that US$11.7m in bribes were required to smooth the passage of export consignments through Chittagong.
This will be financed out of “our core business cash flows”, according to Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin.
