Transnet warns against employment scam

This comes after a fake Facebook account for Durban port manager Moshe Motlohi was set up “with the aim of extorting money from vulnerable jobseekers”.

According to media reports, port manager Moshe Motlohi has now received a number of threatening calls from people duped by the online scam and now fears for his family’s safety.

“TNPA categorically states that these employment offers have not been issued by the company and advises the public to refrain from responding to such offers or paying any money if requested,” the company said in a statement.

“Transnet does not under any circumstances require payment from job applicants and only advertises vacancies via the official online career portal on its website or in national print media. All due diligence is followed by the company’s human resources department when positions are advertised,” the statement added.

Members of the public are asked to email Transnet to report any fraudulent activity.
