First bunkering for ferry at Port of Visby

Owned by Babcock Schulte Energy (BSE), a joint venture between Babcock International Group and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos started operations in February and has a tank capacity of 7,500 cubic metres. It was chartered for the operation by Nauticor, via the joint venture Blue LNG, in which Nauticor has a 90% share and Lithuanian energy infrastructure provider Klaipedos Nafta has a 10% share.

Mahinde Abeynaike, CEO of Nauticor, said: “The start of LNG bunkering for Destination Gotland’s new LNG fuelled ferry “Visborg” marks the start-up of bunker operations with our new LNG bunker supply vessel “Kairos” and shows that the availability of LNG as fuel for shipping on a large-scale basis is secured in Northwest Europe.”

The bunker operation puts into practice a contract for the supply of LNG, which was signed by Nauticor and Destination Gotland in December 2017. It enables the ferry, which will also be operated by Destination Gotland, to run on LNG while in service between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland.

Nautica is chartering Kairos to serve marine customers in the North Sea & Baltic Sea, the Klaipėda LNG fuelling station in Lithuania and the Linde LNG terminal in Nynäshamn.
