First for LNG reloading station

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) took delivery of about 1,500t of LNG from LNG bunker vessel Kairos, owned by Nauticor – whose marine bunkering business was acquired by Gasum in April, at the onshore LNG reloading station located in the Port of Klaipėda.

The facility belongs to Klaipėdos Nafta, and in November 2019 PGNiG won a tender for a five-year term to use 100% of its technical capabilities.

“We have serious plans to develop sales of liquefied natural gas in the Baltic States, all the more so that our cooperation with Lithuanian partner, Klaipėdos Nafta, the owner of the station we operate in Klaipėda, can be described as exemplary,” said Jerzy Kwieciński, PGNiG’s CEO.

The LNG, which originated in Norway, has been loaded into onshore storage tanks. From there, it may be transported by LNG road tankers from Klaipėda to consumers in the Baltic States and north-eastern Poland.

Since the beginning of April, when PGNiG became the sole user of the station, as many as over 50 LNG road tankers carrying a total volume of almost 1000 tonnes of LNG have been dispatched from the station.

The LNG supply chain in Klaipėda consists of the LNG reloading station and the LNG terminal. The LNG reloading station in Klaipėda features five storage tanks with a total capacity of 2,250t of LNG. It has two loading bays for LNG trucks and ISO containers, which can be used simultaneously. The wharf of the station makes it possible not only to receive LNG from vessels, but also to load LNG from the terminal.
