FSRU Toscana begins operations
Floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Toscana, thought to be the world’s first floating LNG platform, has begun commercial operations.
The FSRU Toscana is permanently moored 12 miles of the coast of Livorno, Italy and connected to shore through a gas export pipeline. It will remain at the site for 20 years.
At full capacity, the plant will have a regasification capacity of 3.75 billion cubic meters per year, around 4% of the national demand.
Formerly a 138,830m³ LNG carrier built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the FSRU was recently converted by Dubai’s Drydocks World for contractor, Saipem and owner, OLT.
