LNG distribution hub in planning at Livorno

Livorno LNG Terminal S.p.A. is a joint venture created by four large and important Italian companies, which, following the lead of Ravenna and Venice, will operate in the field of LPG distribution and marketing and port logistics for petrochemical products.

The company is jointly owned by Costiero Gas Livorno, a joint venture between Enifuel, Liquigas and Neri Vulcangas Investimenti. The latter is itself a joint venture between Neri Depositi Costieri and Società Italiana Gas Liquidi.

Depot plans

The plan is to proceed with the construction of a small scale coastal depot of about 9,000 cubic metres inside the Port of Livorno, the first phase of which will be for 4,500 cubic metres, to allow the reception and storage of LNG.

This LNG will be supplied by tankers for subsequent distribution by tankers and small bunker barges, for the refuelling of road service stations and vessels in transit at the port.

The total investment estimated by the shareholders of Livorno LNG Terminal is €50 million and it’s apparently being co-financed by the European Commission under the Gainn4Sea programme.

Neri Group said that the establishment of Livorno LNG Terminal represents the beginning of an important Italian initiative directed to the realisation of investment in a sector which is strategic to making the transition to more environmentally-friendly cleaner fuels.
