LNG event drives development in Greece
An event to facilitate the use of LNG in ports and discuss key environmental considerations has highlighted its benefits as an alternative, sustainable energy source.
The Poseidon Med II project event was held at Port of Patras last month to bring together government representatives and local industry stakeholders to discuss LNG bunkering installations in the port and sustainable energy development in Greece.
The event addressed safety and best practise developments, as well as the monitoring of air emissions in ports and the establishment of Revithoussa terminal as an LNG hub for the regional supply chain.
The event was co-organised by Patras Port, one of the participating ports in the project, which is co-funded by the European Union and involves Greece, Italy and Cyprus and six European ports.
The project aims to bring about the wide adoption of LNG as a safe, environmentally efficient and viable alternative fuel for shipping and help East Mediterranean marine transportation propel towards a low-carbon future.
In October, project organisers held an event to engage national authorities in the development of a regulatory framework for LNG bunkering in Greece.
