Myanmar LNG terminal
Thai construction firm, Italian-Thai Development PCL is reportedly in talks with Myanmar authorities to build a $500 million LNG import terminal at Dawei industrial zone in the south of the country.
Reuters reports that the plan is part of a $1.7bn deal to develop the first phase of the long delayed Dawei project, which includes a $500 million 450 megawatt gas fired power plant.
When completed, the LNG terminal will apparently have an annual capacity of 6 million tonnes and its two main customers will be Thailand’s largest energy firm, PTT and Royal Dutch Shell.
They will each have the capacity to import 3 million tonnes per year through the terminal.
The first phase of the project includes a 27km2 industrial estate which will begin with the construction of a 138km road from Dawei to Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province, 119km northwest of Bangkok.
But before building can begin, the environmental impact assessment needs to gain approval.
