Pakistan opens first LNG terminal

A joint project by Engro Corporation, Excelerate Energy and the Government of Pakistan, the terminal is located in the channel of the Indus River east of Karachi and entered into service just 11 months from the start of construction.

Using Excelerate’s floating storage and regasification vessel (FSRU), Exquisite, the facility has the capacity to deliver up to 690 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas directly to Sui Southern Gas Company’s natural gas pipeline system.

“Our goal is to provide safe and reliable performance for our customers, while working to commission projects quickly to begin serving their energy needs as soon as possible,” said Rob Bryngelson, president and CEO, Excelerate.

“As the FSRU industry leader, our experience and expertise allow us to measure our commissioning timelines in days, not months,” he added.

As part of the commissioning process, Exquisite loaded its first LNG cargo in Ras Laffan, Qatar, on March 24, 2015. After arriving in Port Qasim three days later, the terminal completed commissioning activities and regasification acceptance test in less than three days, allowing Exquisite to enter commercial service by March 31, 2015.

The LNG Terminal in Port Qasim is the ninth floating regasification terminal developed by Excelerate directly or in collaboration with its partners and customers.
