Product tanker LNG bunkering milestone

Hamburg-based LNG supplier Nauticor, a subsidiary of the Nordic energy company Gasum, used its Kairos LNG supply vessel to carry out the bunkering of product tanker Ramelia in the Port of Brunsbüttel. Ramelia is owned by Swedish shipowner Älvtank and managed by the tanker pool of the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

“The first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation for a product tanker in German waters is the next milestone for establishing LNG as environmentally-friendly fuel for ships and strengthens the role of Brunsbüttel as the leading LNG hub at the German North Sea coast,” said Frank Schnabel, managing director at Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH/ Schrammgroup.

The bunkering operation in Brunsbüttel is the second German LNG premiere at the port after the first German ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation ever was conducted there by Kairos in 2019.

“We are pleased to have found a competent partner in Nauticor and we are looking forward to conducting more bunkering operations together,” Mr Schnabel added.

Together with the Linde AG’s LNG and biogas business in Scandinavia, the marine bunkering business of Nauticor was acquired by Gasum on 30 April. The operation was the first bunkering operation for Nauticor since being acquired.
