Second LNG FRSU for Bangladesh

While FSRU Excelerate was at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) carried out routine drydocking and repairs, as well as modifications and retrofitting of several new systems, including the installation of a ballast water treatment system (BWTS).

The 138,000 cubic metre LNG capacity FSRU is now ready to sail to offshore Maheshkhali Island, in the Bay of Bengal, to join Bangladesh’s first FRSU, Excelerate’s FSRU Excellence. Both FSRU’s have a 138,000 cubic metre LNG capacity.

MLNG terminal

In August 2018, Excelerate Energy Bangladesh Limited completed the commissioning of its Moheshkhali Floating LNG (MLNG) terminal – Bangladesh’s first LNG import facility. The terminal has up to 500m standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscf/d) of regasification capacity and delivers natural gas to the Chittagong region of Bangladesh.

The project is a result of the collaboration between Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and International Finance Corporation (IFC). The terminal enables Petrobangla to procure LNG from international natural gas markets and is expected to increase natural supply to the country by 20%.

MLNG is the world’s first fully integrated turnkey floating LNG terminal whereby all services are provided under a single contract by a single provider.

N-KOM has completed more than 190 LNG carrier drydocking and repairs to date, with around 30 projects undertaken in 2018 alone.
