Skangass gets green light for Finnish LNG terminal

The company says this new terminal, which, when finished will have a capacity of 30,000m², will create an efficient LNG logistics chain in the Pori area.

“The investment decision will result in speedy progress in the construction project,” said Tommy Mattila, sales and marketing director, Skangass.

“It is highly important that the Pori terminal is completed on schedule and that we can launch deliveries to our existing and new customers,” he added. “Interest in LNG is found among industrial, shipping as well as heavy-duty land transport customers.”

The Pori LNG terminal, being built at Tahkoluoto Harbour in the Port of Pori, is part of a €65.2m project being funded by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy that will see three LNG terminals built in Finland – one in Pori, Port of Rauma and Port of Tornio.

This latest terminal will be the third Skangass terminal in the Nordic countries. A terminal of the same capacity was opened by the company in Lysekil, Sweden, this summer. The Øra terminal in Norway is small in terms of its storage capacity. Skangass also has a long-term LNG contract with Risavika LNG Production.

This new Pori terminal is expected to be completed by autumn 2016.
