Yamal LNG hits shipping milestone

The 136th cargo offloaded onto the Arc7 ice-class tanker Vladimir Vize saw it reach a landmark 10m tonnes of LNG produced since the start-up of Train 1 in December 2017.

Operated by JSC Yamal LNG, a joint-venture of NOVATEK (50.1%), TOTAL (20%), CNPC (20%) and Silk Road Fund (9.9%), the Yamal LNG Project is based on the Yamal Peninsula in North Russia, above the Arctic Circle, and utilises the resources of the South Tambey Field.

The LNG Plant has been built in three phases scheduled for start-up in 2017 and 2018, with the last phase due to begin operation this year.

Novatek partnered with the Russian government to build the Port of Sabetta as part of the Yamal LNG project. The port ships LNG from the Yamal facility to Western Europe, North and South America, and the Asia Pacific region.

Operating year-round, the Port of Sabetta includes jetties for LNG and gas condensate offloading, ro-ro berths, material off-loading facilities, harbour fleet berths, warehousing facilities, administrative buildings and utilities.

In February 2018, the Yamal LNG project appointed GAC Russia to manage its fleet of ice-breaker tankers at the Port of Sabetta.
