e-RTGs to cut over 1400t of GHGs

The estimated reduction was calculated in a comparison with traditional diesel RTGs and it is thought the e-RTGs could also reduce energy costs by 80% and operating noise level by 65%, while boosting container handling capacity at the deep drafted container terminal, on the east-coast of India.

Eco focus

Environmentally sustainable growth is one of the key foundations of the port, said Krishnapatnam Port but the new e-RTGs are also expected to speed up yard side container handling activities resulting in faster turnaround time for container vessels as well as the by-road trailers.

Jithendra Nimmagadda, chief operating officer at KPCT, commented: “Addition of the new e-RTGs is in-line with our philosophy of ‘Creating capacity ahead of the demand’ whilst we are in the process transforming KPCT from being a gateway container terminal on the east coast of India into a Transshipment hub in South Asia.”

Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal plans to increase its container handling capacity from 1.2m teus per annum to 2m teus.
