MPA works hard to clean oil spill

In collaboration with JTC Corporation and the National Environment Agency, the MPA has deployed a total of 14 craft, two containment booms, oil recovery equipment such as a harbour buster and more than 100 personnel to clean up the spill at sea and on land.

Singapore’s waters around the affected area are generally clean and vessel traffic in the Port of Singapore and port operations remain unaffected by the spill. No further spillage has been detected from DL Salvia but as a precautionary measure, an oil boom has been positioned around the vessel. As well as this, bio-degradable oil dispersants were used to break up the oil slick in the waters.

Jurong Island’s T-bund and the Tuas View Extension have been cleaned, leaving only small stains which will be removed in the coming days.

The MPA continues to monitor the Singapore waters closely and have emergency response craft at the West Jurong region should any oil patches surface.
