Asian box ports lead world
Asian ports experienced an average growth of 11% in container traffic in 2006, with the worlds six leading box handling facilities all located in that region.
By 2010, Asian ports should dominate the top seven places in the world ranking, when Shanghai will have overtaken Singapore as the world’s largest container port. In that year, Shanghai is expected to handle 37m teu compared with 31.9m teu at Singapore.
Of the world’s 16 largest box ports in 2006,there are only two European ports (Rotterdam and Antwerp) and two from the US (Los Angeles and Long Beach).
