Port authorities evolving identities

Wendy Zatylny, president of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, has said that port authorities are evolving to become critical links with the supply chain, building resilience through collaboration and partnership.

“Collaboration and partnership among stakeholders simply makes good sense,” she said at the American Association of Port Authorities annual event in Chile. “We must look to the future together.”

Also speaking at the event, Gloria Hutt Hesse, Chile’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, agreed that consolidation and alliances are important topics for small countries, such as Chile.

“Our country owes most of its growth to foreign trade so we have a duty to be efficient and to share knowledge and to transform ourselves,” she said.

Raúl Celis Montt, chairman of the board at Valparaiso’s port authority Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso, added that ports now need to add sustainability, security, digital transformation, logistics, the environment and the development of better and different infrastructure to their task list.

“These are issues relevant to all ports in the country,” he said.
