Conversions all the rage
Such is the pace of change in the industry that the Conductix-Wampfler Group has created a specialist business unit – E-RTG – dedicated solely to converting existing diesel RTGs to electric operation.
It offers two contrasting solutions: motor driven reels or conductor rails. The latter has two versions: Plug-In or Drive-In.
Claus Burger, E-RTG director, says that the recession has had no visible impact on the rate of conversions being undertaken by Conductix-Wampfler. “We are still receiving a lot of requests from operators around the globe and have recently signed contracts to convert RTGs in both Yilport and Marport in Turkey,” he says.
Asked to assess the strength of the RTG conversion market in the near future, he says that there are a lot of good opportunities coming up in the next few years, which is why Conductix-Wampfler put together its dedicated business unit. However, he also warns that, “the conversion business will not last forever”.
