LED keeps tyre pressures in sight

The company has developed a valve cap containing a flashing LED which it claims can save time on regular pressure checks, and completely eliminate tyres breaking up because they’ve been run under-inflated for long periods.

“The action of screwing down the device over the valve of a tyre inflated to the right pressure calibrates it,” says Nokian Tyres’ product manager Marko Muhonen. “When the pressure needs adjusting, it’s simple a matter of unscrewing the device, adjusting the pressure, and screwing the device back on again.

“It’s a simple product that means tyre pressures won’t fail without being noticed,” he adds. “Careful and frequent pressure maintenance is the most secure way to achieve the planned operating life of a tyre. Low pressure can cause sidewall damage and chafing against the rim, and perhaps even premature breaking of the tyre.”
